the ONE, the ONLY

I find myself using the book more than any other text when I need information on an audiology topic. The entire book is meticulously edited: I may have found 1 typo in over 300 pages read. The chapters are written by leading experts on that topic. Not every audiology topic is covered, or with the same amount of detail. There is definitely a bias towards diagnostic rather than treatment and rehabilitative information. But for what it does cover, it covers in good detail and with authority. For the topics it doesn't cover, there are other good texts to read. The prose in the vast majority of chapters is incredible readable, which is perhaps surprising for this type of reference book. There are lots of good figures, tables, diagrams, etc.

This book is really helpful for 1st year audiology students. It is kind of basic and provides descriptions of audiology tests. Not recommended for research purposes or if you require more in depth information. It helped me through my first semester.

Interesting, well reasoned but narrow.

Having been fortunate enough to study under Dr Botting when at university, I am in a position to have heard many of the theories espoused in this book as tutorial topics. Here, of course, there is a variety, but nevertheless the substance is all reasonably similar: that the treaties of Gothic apply to aspects of both the cultural and social infrastructure without consideration to either restraint or boundary, beyond a notation of where the parameters are breached.
Dr Botting's major difficulty is his insistence on writing in the nude. It became a regular talking point, for while I was at Lancaster he would sit starkers in his (glass fronted) office, writing furiously, reading furiously or smoking furiously, or all three, and he would often pass many hours in this fashion, and one would only ever hear a sound from him when some stray ember of ash found its way downwards, with the result that a catatonic cry of "yaroo! my knadgers!" could be heard all across Lancaster's picturesque campus.
It is indeed a compliment to his sturdy Northern built that Dr Botting's nudity did not make him a laughing stock. Indeed, I know of several people who were in no little way intimidated by his, erm, intellectual presence, and did not feel that they could endure his presence for an entire class.
Of course, there is more to Frankenstein that Fred Botting's nudity, although many have confused the two. It is a much observed factor of Mary Shelley's writing that the juxtaposition of humanity and ignorance, or inhumanity and great learning, offer explanations of the outside world.
Personally, I found this a worthy addition to the case book series, which began with a series of essays on Shakespearean plays. Frankenstein may not be the funniest text of the Romantic period, but it does attract the hairest professors.

This book is both wide and deep in its coverage of a class of switching converters based on resonant circuits. Resonant power conversion has been around a long time in the horizontal sweep circuits of CRT displays and have been used for decades, usually in lower-power applications. This book includes topics such as how to soft-switch the more familiar non-resonant converter circuits for reduced switching loss, so it is not only for resonant converter designers. Non-resonant converters often resonate spuriously because of parasitic reactances, and ordinary converter designers are confronted with these behaviors in their circuits.

This book is intended for upper-level university students and engineers in industry. It covers three basic kinds of converters: rectifiers, inverters, and converters. The explanations are well-written, with illustrations, waveform plots, and derivations of the important mathematical formulas. The in-depth analysis makes this book useful as a working reference.

This is well written and covers many types of resonant converters. It is not a beginner's or intro type of book. You will get lost in the math if you don't have a BSEE degree or higher. I'm still reading this and am going from cover to cover. Highly recommended. It's a jewel in it's field.

A Must For Any Job Seeker

Perhaps the thing I liked most about this book was the confidence the author gave me as soon as I started it. I felt that, if I put myself in her hands, I'd soon get a job.

The book was obviously written by someone who knew her stuff. Her recommendations are based on real experience - around 2,000 clients, with 80% of them working within 3 months. Not bad going!

The book is very complete, covering everything you'll ever need to know about preparing a resume, each chapter with its set tasks, paving the way for the following chapter.

If you're desperate to find a job, this is the book for you. And, even if you're not, it's a book well worth buying and keeping for the day when you need to prepare that first-class resume.
