William Young is Professor of Religious Studies at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.�In addition to The World’s Religions:� Worldviews and Contemporary Ethical Issues (3rd edition, 2009) he is co-author (with Christian Hauer) of the widely-adopted textbook An Introduction to the Bible: A Journey into Three Worlds (Prentice Hall, 7th edition, 2008) and author of Quest for Harmony:� Native American Spiritual Traditions (Hackett Press, 2006). During a thirty-five year teaching career, he has introduced generations of students to the world’s religions and taught a wide variety of special topic courses ranging from Religion and Politics to Spiritual Ecology:�Religion and Nature.�

A Religious World View

I use this as the textbook for the college class I teach on Introduction to World Religions. The best part of this text is that it sets up a consistent approach to all the religions it studies. It gives a working definition of religion and consistently applies that definition throughout the text. This book allows the reader to compare each religion using seven ideas. This allows the students to compare and contrast all religions from the same framework - a wonderful method. The text does make an occasional error such as the statement on Christianity's view of human nature (not all Christian denominations hold the same view on this topic). These can be corrected by the instructor. It also deals with contemporary, new American religions. The last section of the textbook deals with the application of the world's religious views to morality. It deals with controversial topics such as Gender, Homosexuality, War, Economics, Environmental issues, etc. This section the students enjoy as they see the views of different religions played out in moral application.There are some draw backs to the book. It is readable but very methodical. It has few pictures and no color shots which would enhance the presentation. In the morality section, the author presents all sides of the issue but seems to take the more moderate side of the religious application to a particular moral issue. With all the above being said, I would recommend this text for a college class and for the serious reader who wishes to understand the basics of world religions. In the hands of a knowledgeable instructor, this is an outstanding textbook.

This book provides a great basis for learning about religions, but it makes you work for it. Some pictures, great descriptions, and enough background to get the basics but definately not light or entertaining. If you simply want to learn or are VERY interested in learning about different religions then this is a great purchase. It was a required text for one of my college classes, and served its purpose but I was not at all motivated to read extra chapters simply for the sake of learning. The language is fairly user friendly, and it is a well written, well researched text.

Fantastic resource

I think this really is one of the best resources for learning about comparative religion.
Other resources tend to be much more picture oriented and this is more geared toward the text, which made it easier to read for me. If you want something with better pictures - I know there are way better books than this, but the writting in this one is better summarized than many others.

Great information & pictures

Very informative book covering literally everything about Killifish, the book is written in a very useful and detailed way but also in a writing style that is very easy to understand and learn from. I've read a few books related to these kind of fish but none of the others have even came close to the usefulness found in these pages.

One of the main things that I really admire about this book are the mass amount of very colorful and high quality photographs that are incorporated into different chapters of the book, they add a great visual aid to the information and it helped me understand the topics that are discussed in great detail. These fish are fascinating and the book answered all my questions that I had previously about them

Great introductory book on killifish

Although I've raised tropical fish for 40+ years I've never had killifish.. This book is a great introductory text that lays out all aspects of keeping them; buying them online, or raising them from eggs. The illustrations are numerous and well done. One of the best introductory books on any subject I've ever bought. Totally recommend for the beginning killikeeper.

So much to learn

This the the advertising bible. If all advertising followed what is written in this book, it would be a better place with less "IN YOUR FACE" advertising. It would create a world of more thought provoking and relationship based branding influence.

It reminds you that advertising starts at the concept and is an art that you have to slowly build and perfect.
Thank you Pete, I see my job in a different light.

A must for any ad student

This covers it all, in a way I've never seen before. As a graduate of one of the world's best graduate programs for advertising, I couldn't help but notice a good piece of my education could have been skipped if I'd read this earlier. It's my bible; I still reference it though I work at a top agency in NYC. Gold.

Awesome book on how to advertise well

This book is amazing! I am only about halfway through it, but the concepts and "tools" (guidelines) that he brings up are very helpful. The pages are nice and thick, so there is no worry about handling the book gently. All of the art and ads are sketched out, which gives it a nice look. Easy reading, and enjoyable reading. Would recommend to the advertiser out there.
